A little lesson in backstroke from Missy F.

Some of you hear us asking you to “get your head back” when swimming backstroke.  Here’s a little drill to try the next time you’re at a loss for what drills to do for backstroke.  (Please do not use a metal water bottle, a one gallon milk jug, a detergent bottle, or large green thermos, etc.).

Missy Franklin ‘nervous’ before high school meet

By Maggie Hendricks | Fourth-Place Medal 9 hours ago

Competitors snap pics of Franklin. (USA Today Sports)Missy Franklin won four gold medals at the London Olympics. Since then, she's appeared in front of crowds at a Denver Broncos game, "The Tonight Show," and at plenty of different awards shows. Though she's a teenager, you think these experiences would drum nervousness right out of her, right?

Wrong. She is still a teenager, and found herself quite nervous before a dual meet. Competing for Regis Jesuit High School, Franklin said she was surprised but happy that she was so nervous.

"All my teammates were like, 'What is wrong with you?'" Franklin said. "I was so nervous and I love that. It shows me that the excitement of the sport is still there, no matter where you go. It can be here or the Olympics, but I still get so excited to get in the pool every single time.

Senior Christmas Celebration

16 of 19 swimmers from the Senior group will be participating in the Delaware County Classic this weekend – 84%.  Since this is one of the few times that nearly everyone will be in the same place at the same time (other than practice or a meet), Denise has reserved a room for us to have a late lunch together (parents are invited too! – someone has to pay the bill).

If you’re not a Delaware County person and aren’t swimming in the meet, you’re still invited.  Of course you’ll want to come to the meet to watch your teammates (a weekend without a swim meet just isn’t right).

Please plan to join everyone at El Vaquero (259 S. Sandusky Street) following the meet.
